Old Mother Riley in Society (1940) (U) (British National (Anglo), 81 minutes) (re-issued in 1941, 69 minutes) Plot : Old Mother Riley plays the wardrobe lady for her daughter, a chorus girl. Her daughter then falls for a wealthy fellow. To spy, Old Mother Riley dons a maid's uniform and begins working in the beau's family home. Mayhem ensues!

It was Lucan and McShane who gave Jimmy Clitheroe (1922-1973) his big break, casting him in the 1939 Old Mother Riley pantomime, "The Old Woman Who Lives in a Shoe". The following year they gave him his first film role, a small part in this picture. Jimmy Clitheroe went on to be a star of variety theatre, films, radio and television.
