John Edgar Gras(s)by (b. circa 1800) married Elizabeth Sophia Stoney (b. circa 1809) on 11 August 1836


They had five children :

 Rebecca Agnes Grassby                            (c.12 April 1837. d.1841(2nd Q))

John Edgar Grassby  II                              (b.1837.c.12 April 1837. d. 1869 (2nd Q)) 

who married Ellen Duffey (b. 1847) in 1869(2nd Q).

Given that Rebecaa Agnes Grassby and John  Edgar Grassby II were christened on the same date indicates that they may have been twins.

Elizabeth Sophia Stoney

 The 1851 Census shows John Grassby's widow, Sophia Grassby, aged 35, living with her four surviving children at  Paragon Inn, Gallery 3, in Kingston-upon-Hull. (ref : :HO107/2363 f37(reverse)-pg19, Entry 63).

Paragon Inn was situated in the Paragon Street/Station Terrace area of Hull.

Sophia's occupation is stated as Sempetrist(?) and birthplace as Hull, Yorkshire.

Also listed are :

Edgar Grassby, son, unmarried, aged 15, born in Goole and working in a cotton mill.

Raymond Grassby, son, unmarried, aged 9, born in Bromley, scholar.

Julia Grassby, daughter, aged 4, born Hull, scholar, and

Clara Grassby, daughter, aged 5 months, born Hull, scholar.
